Contacts with JETAA Portland

In my quest to find answers to many questions, I found the website of JETAA Portland. This is a local chapter of the national JETAA (JET Alumni Association). They have several events each month, and I contacted their executive staff and asked if it was possible to attend the events and ask some questions.

I was contacted by their president Stephanie, and she invited me to their J-Kaiwa (pronounced "Oei-kaiwa") night held on the first Friday of each month. I will definitely be attending.

Every Journey Begins The Same Way

What this blog is intended to become is a step-by-step account of my path in the JET experience.

I am a senior in college, and want to teach as an ultimate life goal. The JET Program, I believe, will be a fascinating opportunity to teach in another culture, and particularly one that I love.

However, there is not as much information as one might think on the whole process. Yes, the JET Program website has all the basic information, such as application info, requirements, and (broadly) what to expect. It doesn't, however, deliver on the myriad other questions that rage through the mind of someone who wants to be caught up in the JET Program.

So, in my blog quest, I will be bringing three things:

1. Answers to questions I can't find anywhere (with ease)
2. Information about the Japanese culture
3. Updates about the process

I hope I will be accepted into the JET Program, and if I am, I will be changing the postings of this blog into one regarding myself in Japan, basking in the culture and experience.
